The big trout have moved in and we are have been catching 16" - 22" trout consistently with a few 24" + size hammer trout. Nearshore oyster reefs and rock jetties have been producing nice size slabs from 15" - 18". Live shrimp under popping cork along with Matrix Shad and Marker 54 plastics have been producing limits of trout with very few short throwbacks. On the days when the weather has cooperated, going out into Breton Sound chasing big hammer trout has been epic. Working plastics and live shrimp off the bottom in 15 to 20 foot of water has produced some monster trout catches. In fact, instead of throwing back short trout, there were quite a few days we were throwing back trout over 20" because we had reached our limit of 20" + sized trout. We were sifting through huge trout to find keepers under 20". The speckled trout bite and redfish bite has been amazing throughout May and has not let up. We anticipate the trout and redfish bit to remain strong through out June before the heat of summer kicks in.
Now that Red Snapper season is in full swing we will be spending more time offshore chasing red snapper and mangrove snapper.
