The name of the game for this past June was find deeper water and get after those red snapper. The snapper season is in full swing and the limits have come easy. Weather is heating up but the snapper fishing is on fire also! We have had quite a few snapper trips this June and all resulted in full limits with some bonus mangrove snapper and cobia. Bottom jigging in 50 to 130 foot of water have been producing 18" to 30" snapper. The sharks have not gotten too bad yet, so we are getting 95% of the catches to the boat without the TAX man taking his toll. Working cut pogies and live croaker about 3 foot off the bottom near oil and gas rigs along with fishing submerged pipes and structure have keep the reels burning this June. In addition to the offshore snapper trips being on fire, the inshore near coastal trips for speckled trout and redfish have been very good also. On calm days where we can get further out into Breton Sound hitting satellite rigs and islands we have been staying on top of the big speckled trout and some big bull reds. Nearshore we are having to contend with a mix of 50/50 keepers versus throwbacks under 13". But the bite has been fast and furious so weeding through the short trout to put nice boxes of keeper trout have been the name of the game for inshore fishing. Deeper water has been producing more keeper trout than the shallow oyster reefs. Finding trout on bottom in 6 to 10 feet of water has been key to staying on keeper trout inshore. The trout have been destroying the Marker 54 Glide and Jerk shrimp. It doesn't matter what color your throw right now, they are eating everything in sight.
